My name is Lee Harper, and I'd like to welcome you to the Mockingbird website. Let me tell you all about myself... well, maybe not ALL :-), after-all, we have only just "met". But I will tell you everything about my cats.

In 1994, I established Mockingbird Persians in a picturesque town on the west coast near the Canadian-U.S. border.

In late 1999, Exotic Shorthairs were added to the Mockingbird family.

My goal is to produce healthy, sweet-tempered kitties who conform to CFA standards.

I hope in my own small way to be able to contribute to the improvement and beauty of my chosen breeds.

I place great emphasis on phenotype, using individual kitties of exceptional quality in my breeding program.

Health and Personality are as important to me as the beauty of my cats. I am looking for the complete package.

My bi-color Persian queens include three Regional Kitten Winners, and our October 1997 Almanac "COVER GIRL" 1997's National Winning Second Best Cat in Championship,
GC, NW Granddelight's PJ of Mockingbird
.

At the time of her national win, PJ became the highest scoring bi-color/calico female Persian of all-time!

After PJ came 1999's homebred Regional Winning littermates, GC RW Mockingbird Smurf of Klizer and GC RW Mockingbird Audition. Audra campaigned as a kitten and Smurf earned his RW as an adult. What a season that was!

Then in the year 2000, the show ring welcomed the "phenomenon" known as
GC RW Mockingbird My Bi-Line, the first tabby and white kitten born at Mockingbird. From his first show at 4 months to his last kitten show in California, Liner was a consistent Best Kitten winner.

The Mockingbird Trio of Homebred Regional Winners

In fact, all three of our homebred regional winners were multiple Best Cat, Best Kitten and/or Best in Show winners.

2001 saw the eagerly anticipated show debut of the first homebred Mockingbird Exotic, GC Mockingbird X-Periment of Abywise. Perry was both a Best Cat Winner and a Best in Show Winner while still a champion!

What is my breeding philosophy? When I evaluate pedigrees, I place great weight on the first three generations, considering not only the quality and show records of individual cats in the pedigree, but also that of their siblings and half-siblings, indicating a FAMILY of quality producing kitties.

This approach has allowed Mockingbird to produce slightly over 50% show-quality kittens in our litters to date.

Although our breeding program is small, I am pleased to be able to say that we have placed some outstanding cats with other breeders.

Already there are 7 people with Mockingbird kittens who have been awarded at least one "Best".

We have 3 co-owners who have campaigned a Mockingbird Kitten or cat to a Regional Win - and for two of them, it was their FIRST RW ever!

There are Mockingbird kittens who are treasured family members in Canada, the U.S., Europe, Africa and Asia.

Thank you all for taking such wonderful care of the Mockingbird legacy.

During my life, I have been a dog show handler, a harness horse driver, a professional photographer, a college professor, a film writer, director and producer, a zoologist, a travel writer, a radio talk show host, a business woman and from time to time, an amateur sleuth

For those people who say you have to be a "somebody" to get a national win in championship, PJ proved that's just not true. I was a novice and completely unknown in the fancy. PJ was only my third show cat, only the second cat I granded, was from a cattery who had never granded a cat of their own breeding, and I campaigned her in only the second year of my show career.

But I knew the minute I set eyes on her that she was flawless, and worthy of a national win.

You can read more about PJ's story on PandEcats.com, where she was a Featured Cat.

So never listen to the common "myths" in the cat fancy. Travel your own path. If you believe you have a cat of national quality, go for it! With a bit of show smarts and some luck, your deserving kitty might earn a national win! It is the experience of a lifetime.
